Tuesday, March 14

Today we traveled to Plaine du Nord. Between the team members and our translators, we were 19 total inside the van with one additional rider on top with the supplies. We were packed like sardines in a can, but we all laughed and had fun. The extremely bad road conditions and enormous pot holes made you feel like you were on a rollercoaster ride, except it lasted for almost two hours. Once we arrived the extremely large crowd was already waiting for us.

After a quick assessment, we set up our clinic stations and began working immediately. No matter how many patients we saw, every time you turned around there were more. By the end of the day we treated 454 patients. We diagnosed 18 with glaucoma, 23 with cataracts and 7 with pterygia. Glasses were dispensed to over two hundred patients as well. An exhausting but truly rewarding day.
